Processor comparison-Honor 8X vs Redmi Note 6 Pro

This is the continuation of my series – Honor 8X vs Redmi Note 6 Pro. In my last post, I discussed about the screen comparison between both the devices. Honor 8X clearly won that battle with better screen to body ratio and aspect ratio.

Today I will be comparing their processors. Often considered the brain of a smartphone, the processor defines performance. Let’s see what happens today.

Honor 8X is powered by the latest 710 processor from the house of Honor’s mother brand Huawei. It is a stunning processor and only second to the premium Kirin 970. Redmi Note 6 Pro on the other hand, comes with Snapdragon 636.

Here also Honor 8X wins the battle. Let’s show you how. Kirin 710 is based on a 12nm manufacturing process which is better than the 14nm manufacturing of Snapdragon 636. Kirin 710 helps saves battery life and enables multi-tasking.

Screen comparison: Honor 8X vs Redmi Note 6 Pro

Hello friends, I have decided to run a small series of comparison between Honor 8X and Redmi Note 6 Pro. This is the first post of that series and today I will throw some light on the screen segment of both the devices.

First up, let’s discuss the screen to body ratio of both the devices. Honor 8X comes with 91% screen to body ratio which is impressive for a phone of its category. On the other hand, Redmi Note 6 Pro has a 81% screen to body ratio, noticeably lower than the former.

Now let’s check out one more important element of the screen, the aspect ratio. Honor 8X comes with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. Redmi Note 6 Pro on the other hand, offers an aspect ratio of 19:9. The higher aspect ratio ensures more real estate on the screen. The extremely narrow bezels and the thin chin of the Honor 8X owes it to the aspect ratio.

What makes Honor 8X superior to Redmi Note 6 Pro?

Honor 8X and Redmi Note 6 Pro are two of the most hyped smartphones of 2018. Both the devices are often pitched against each other for their uncanny similarities. To some extent, they are actually similar products; but a close look reveals that Honor 8X comes with several perks which differentiates both the devices.

Let’s explore what makes Honor 8X a superior smartphone:

Look and feel: So let’s start with the look and feel of both the devices. Honor 8X comes with 2.5 D glass design which lends it a very suave and posh touch. Redmi Note 6 Pro, on the other hand, comes in their usual metal casing. Tad too old fashioned and monotonous, I have to say.

Display: Honor 8X comes with a 6.5 inch FHD+ display; not to speak of the stunning notch design. Redmi Note 6 Pro also comes with a notch design but its display is tad smaller at 6.26 inch. But one thing I need to mention here. Honor 8X is the first smartphone to get a TUV Rheinlad Certification for eye comfort. TUV Rheinland is a worldwide testing and certification institution who has certified Honor 8X for its outstanding blue light filter and photo biological safety. It’s not just about how flashy the display looks but also about your eye care!

Screen: Honor 8X comes with 91% screen to body ratio with an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. Redmi Note 6 Pro, on the other hand, has 81% screen to body ratio with 19:9 aspect ratio. As you can see, Honor 8X offers more real estate on the screen as compared to Redmi Note 6 Pro. Moreover, Honor 8X has extremely narrow bezels and a stunningly thin chin!

Processor: The processor is often called the brain of a smartphone so it’s very important that we discuss it in detail. Honor 8X is powered by the latest Kirin 710 processor whereas Redmi Note 6 Pro comes with Snapdragon 636. Kirin 710 is based on a 12 nm manufacturing process which is better than the 14 nm manufacturing process of the Snapdragon 636. It helps save the battery and do multi-tasking.

Camera: Honor 8X flaunts a 20MP+2MP AI dual camera setup. Redmi Note 6 Pro comes with a 12MP+5MP AI dual camera. Both the devices have AI cameras but Honor 8X’s camera offers better colour quality and accurate scene recognition. Photos are not just memories anymore, they are also an extension of your persona. So let’s not take them for granted.

Now let’s talk about two additional features that Honor 8X brings which is not even present in Redmi Note 6 Pro:

GPU Turbo: Honor 8X comes with the innovative GPU Turbo technology which makes sure that there is no battery heating, less battery consumption and no frame drops leading to a lag-free experience.

3 card slot: Honor 8X flaunts a 3-card slot helping you manage 2 SIM cards and 1 MicroSD card at the same time. On the other hand, Redmi Note 6 Pro comes with a hybrid dual SIM tray.

Honor 10 Lite is launched in China today amid much fanfare. From the name, one can guess that it is a toned-down and much more affordable variant of the flagship Honor 10.

Honor 10 Lite comes equipped with a dual camera setup on the back, featuring a 13-megapixel primary sensor and a 2-megapixel secondary sensor stacked vertically. Honor 10 Lite packs an AI-powered 24MP selfie camera with a wide f/2.0 aperture, increasing resolution and definition increased by 20% respectively.

Honor 10 shows flagship prowess – wins big at Exhibit Tech Awards 2018

Launched in the mid of 2018, Honor 10 has not yet lost its sheen and the recent Exhibit Tech Award stands testimony to this fact. The stunning smartphone from the house of Honor has been awarded the Camera Phone of the year for 2018! I mean, that’s how flagship devices should be! At least longer shelf life than non-flagships and longer consumer recall.

The award show was held in Mumbai on November 19 and Mr. Suhail Tariq, CMO – Honor, represented the brand at the event.

Honor has always been known for its camera technology and constant innovation in visual ideology. In fact, they became the pioneers of AI photography in India when they launched Honor View 10. Their supremacy in smartphone photography reached the pinnacle with Honor 10.

A global best-seller, Honor 10 redefines photography with its 24MP + 16MP AI dual rear camera with F1.8 wide aperture. The camera is capable of recognising 22 categories and more than 500 scenarios in real time. The fast and efficient AI algorithm immediately pairs subjects with the optimal camera setting and image context.

This is well complimented by the superb 24MP AI front camera with an enhanced light sensitive sensor and a 4-in-1 light fusion technology helping you capture stunning selfies even in low light.

Honor shines bright during festivities and sets an example of ethical business ideology

Young and dynamic smartphone brand Honor, who stands For The Brave, has once again showed that it practices what it preaches. When most of the smartphone brands operating in India decided on a price hike citing the excuse of Indian Rupee’s falling status against the USD, Honor stood their ground and did not hike a single penny on any of their product!

Xiaomi, who often takes pride in being a major player in India, even shamelessly covered their unethical act by presenting a veil of honesty which is of no use at all. Check out the tweet from their India MD, Manu Kumar Jain:

But Mr. Jain, we don’t need an excuse for the price hike; you can justify any action by offering a random excuse. What’s more important is your intent and we got it! If you look at the bottom of the tweet, you will notice that this was on November 10th. Now let’s see how your good deeds pays you dividends. Honor didn’t opt for price hike in India and on the very next day in China (11th November), on Single’s Day sale, Honor became the No.1 brand on both JD.com and Tmall.com, two of the country’s leading e-commerce platforms!

Drawing reference to the dateline again, Xiaomi went for the price hike right after the Diwali sale. They have definitely sold a good amount of products but that doesn’t mean that they try to recover the discount amount with such a gimmick. Honor also sold over a million devices during Diwali which recorded a stunning 300% YoY growth as compared to 2017. Honor 9N became a star product on Flipkart and Honor 8X was the best seller in 12K-15K category on Amazon India. But despite such massive customer response, Honor chose against milking more out of the situation. Their prices are the same and I am sure they are not going to hike them even by a dime.

Everyone makes money but what differentiates you is the fact the how much humane you are in your business endeavours. Honor knows this and it’s clear they follow it!

Xiaomi India trying to cover for price hike under the veil of honesty

This is an India specific story but I believe all of us around the world should give it a read as Xiaomi goes bonkers to sell themselves as a global brand. Yes, they have global reach and that is why we did not expect such a stunt from them. Now let’s throw light to the issue under question with a little backdrop to India’s current economic condition.

It is not hidden from anyone that India is not having a smooth sailing when it comes to its standing in the global currency battle. The Indian Rupee is constantly seeing a dip as against the USD, the stock market on a bumpy ride and all those jazz. But these things are quite normal for a country of India’s magnitude and population. Yet some business organisations make a big deal out of it and see these times as an opportunity to milk in more moolah. Unethical it may sound but that is the truth. Now let’s come to the point of Xiaomi joining that wagon of opportunistic business organisations.

Xiaomi has been trying hard to show their ‘Indian connect’ with the help of many antics, one of which is appointing an Indian face as the mouthpiece of their India business. But what is the use of such gimmicks when you don’t really care about your own customers? Following is the tweet from Xiaomi India’s Managing Director Manu Kumar Jain. I believe many of you have already seen it.

As you can see, they have conveniently hiked the price of some of their products under the veil of Indian Rupee’s falling status against USD. What’s worse, they have tried to project themselves as an honest player by coming out in public with the reason behind the price hike. See, honesty is one thing but this is the type of honesty which has no relevance whatsoever. More so when there are brands, that too international brands, who have not at all raised their prices with the excuse of INR’s falling status.

Honor is one such brand who despite being an international name have decided not to milk this condition. Their products are well received and as a matter of fact, are superior to Xiaomi’s when it comes to design and innovation. But they have not hiked a single penny on any of their products. Now, this is called being sensitive towards the natives! I believe Xiaomi has a lot to learn from Honor when it comes to being empathetic and supportive towards the locals.
